How to Create a Persuasive Speech With a Question of Policy

How to Create a Persuasive Speech With a Question of PolicyThe question of policy is the key to a persuasive speech. That is the truth. A speech, when presented with a question of policy, can be sure of winning applause and making a person's mouth water. In fact, a well-chosen question of policy can even lure a crowd to its feet. There are two key techniques for a persuasive speech that have been used successfully by all successful speakers. One is based on contradiction, the other on the use of quotations.First, the most important thing in a persuasive speech is to bring in a contradiction. This is also known as contradiction as truth. If the speaker is not allowed to introduce a contradiction, it would be very difficult to succeed in a speech. In a subtle way, the second technique works like this. At the beginning of the speech, it is necessary to draw attention towards some piece of data or a detail, so that a listener can get an idea of what the speech is about. This means that the speaker should have the opportunity to use the word 'and' quite a few times in the speech. Thus, by drawing attention towards the salient points of the speech, he would be able to give his audience some small glimpses of the big picture. One example would be that a controversial subject which the speaker wants to raise in the speech, gets no attention whatsoever. Then when the listener's attention is drawn to a particular part of the speech, then the speaker can proceed to bring out another controversial point. This would be just like the introduction of a contradiction. Such a technique has the potential to convince the listeners to see the light. However, a persuasive speech does not need to create a contradiction. A simple question of policy can do the trick. Therefore, the question of policy in a persuasive speech can bring in attention towards the particular controversial point and lead to a captivating effect. But if the speaker does not carry out this trick properly, then the au dience will lose interest.
